The government of Maldives has announced a ban on vehicular traffic on the roads of Malé City on Friday evening between 04:00 pm to 06:00 pm owing to the parade to be held in commemoration of the 59th Independence Day of the country.

In an announcement by Malé City Council, it was announced that a parade will be held on Malé roads on Friday evening by Maldives National Cadet Corp (MNCC) and Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).

Since managing the traffic flow of Malé roads will be difficult during the event, operating vehicles during this time has been prohibited, the announcement reads,

The parade was initially scheduled to be held on 26th July, which is the official Independence Day of the country. However, it had to be rescheduled to Friday due to bad weather. The vehicle ban was also imposed last Friday. However the ban was lifted later, following the cancellation of the parade.

This year, the country has significantly scaled back on its Independence Day celebrations due to the current economic situation of the country.
