Government of Maldives has defended itself after Speaker of Parliament and President of Maldives Democratic Party's (MDP) accusations against the government.

He accused the government of violating rights, in addition to allowing discrimination, corruption, and injustice.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has defended the administration, which was elected into power through a coalition lead campaign. MDP is the ruling party of the coalition.

However, the biggest critic towards the administration recently has been from within MDP itself. Nasheed, and MDP members loyal to him, have been accusing the government of theft, corruption, and failure to fulfill their pledges.

Describing Nasheed's personal interests behind the allegations, some MDP MPs tweeted on Monday night that he wanted "something very simple". This includes investigating corruption, injustice, non-discrimination, the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption, and the purchase of ventilators.

Chief of Staff at President's Office Ali Zahir told Mihaaru news on Tuesday that this administration will not tolerate embezzlement. He also said there was no room for discrimination, or injustice in this administration.

"No one will be wronged or allowed to do injustice. Institutions have been given the full authority to fully investigate a case submitted against each individual," said Ali Zahir.

He said that there was no possibility to interfere with the work of independent institutions entrusted with responsibility on investigating corruption. Ali Zahir said that the government wants no state authority or institution to interfere in this responsibilities either.

Parliament members have criticised Nasheed for some of his comments where he described the current administration as "drowning" and that MDP members should let them as well.
