Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau has stated today that the State does not spend heavily on road development only for those roads to be used for racing.
At the closing ceremony of the 100th Traffic Monitoring Training, held for students of Fuvahmulah School, Shujau said that road accidents can only be decreased through everyone abiding by the laws and regulations.
Shujau said that the actions of a few are now posing dangers even to those who abide by the laws and regulations.
He said that road safety can only be assured when drivers refrain from speeding and avoid reckless driving.
"I believe that these children, when they grow up, will abide by the laws and regulations even if a traffic police officer is not in sight. The result will be a decrease in accidents, and a significant decrease in people who get injured," Shujau said.
Shujau said that the main aim of the workshop is to build a generation that respects traffic guidelines.
