Road Development Corporation's Payables Manager Hussain Aneef has admitted to drug abuse and possession in court, appealing for an opportunity of rehabilitation.

He admitted that the drugs and empty bottles of alcohol that Police discovered in his apartment on Tuesday night's operation belonged to him, and is intended for personal use.

Police have revealed that in their search they found two hand rolled cigarettes believed to contain drugs, and cellophane wrappers that may have contained drugs.

Mihaaru further discovered that empty bottles of alcohol were also seized from the property.

Despite his admitting to drug abuse and possession, the Criminal Court released him on Wednesday. The Criminal Court made this decision in light of the fact that Aneef has never previously been detained, he is not known to be involved in criminal activities, and the charges against him are not major offences as per the Penal Code. Ghazi Aminath Azlifa also noted that the Police had not submitted any evidence to show that Aneef may pose a threat to society.

Apologizing for his actions, Aneef said in court that he would welcome any chance of receiving rehabilitation treatment.

The Judge decided to not hold Aneef in remand, pointing out that Police have also noted that the amount of drugs found in his apartment do not amount to the threshold to be considered as drug trafficking.

Aneef's apartment was searched in relation to an ongoing investigation that the Police is conducting regarding a case of misappropriated funds of over MVR 13 million at the RDC.
