Police has begun issuing parking stickers to vehicles that have yet to be taken to the temporary parking space allocated from Hulhumale' until zone registrations are updated for vehicles registered to zones other than Male'.

Police announced that vehicles in Malé City have been given an opportunity to comply with guidelines and register under the A zone. Stickers are being issued to vehicles registered in other zones, along with warnings to relocate them to designated parking space, police said.

"Owners of the vehicles issued parking stickers are warned to remove the vehicle within the window stated in the sticker." the police said.

The allocated parking zone for these vehicles is the vacant space adjacent to the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) apartment units in Hulhumale' Phase 2. Housing Development Corporation (HDC) had provided a land plot of 40,000 square feet to the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation on August 21.

Owners, who are given a period of six months to transfer their parking registrations, are required to relocate the vehicles registered under a different zone to this parking space themselves.

A large number of vehicles registered to other zones have been overcrowding roads in Male' City in addition to those with incomplete registrations. The Ministry informed that the vehicles will be given a 40-day window to relocate the vehicles.

Police further warned that noncompliance will result in towing of the vehicle.

Although a large space has been allocated for parking purposes, the action has not been met with much compliance, with only a few vehicles relocated to the zone thus far.
