The former government had put together the land list of the Binveriyaa scheme unfairly, said former President Mohamed Nasheed, adding that he is confident Housing Development Corporation (HDC)'s new Managing Director Mauroof Jameel would reform matters after the ongoing police investigation.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) regarding the recently uncovered issue of Hulhumalé lands unfairly being allocated to undeserving candidates, Nasheed said the land list formulated previously was also unfair, and that this was a concern he raised earlier as well.

This newly discovered issue is merely another ring added to the unfairness, he said.

However, unlike before, the matter is now being investigated and the HDC management has been changed, he said. Nasheed further said he believes Maldives Police Service would properly investigate the matter.

He also expressed confidence that the newly appointed HDC Managing Director would improve operations.

At the moment, the entire board of HDC, with the exception of the corporation's Chairman Ahmed Nasif (Didi) remain suspended as investigations into the Binveriyaa and Gedhoruveriyaa scheme fraud continues. The company's former Managing Director Fazul Rasheed also resigned over the matter, while in suspension.

An additional 15 HDC employees and 10 Housing Ministry staff were also fired to facilitate the investigation. Some former officials of the Housing Ministry from the previous administration have also had their passport seized over the situation.
