Malé City Council has been ordered by the Civil Court to pay MVR 364,000 to Glorious Trading and Shipping, the company which was contracted to develop a temporary local market in Villimalé.

The contract was initially awarded in February 2022 at the value of MVR 2.5 million, to be completed with 45 days.

The company sued Malé City Council claiming MVR 364,000 in unpaid dues by the council, MVR 781,000 spent extra due to delays caused by the council, MVR 251,000 in fines for late payment, and MVR 500,000 in indirect damages.

In the verdict issued by Civil Court last Sunday, the court said that the council must pay the MVR 364,000 which has not been paid by the council, and that it should be cleared within 14 days via court.

However, the court rules that the MVR 781,000, MVR 251,000 and the MVR 500,000 claimed by Glorious Trading and Shipping would not be recovered.
