Ghani has been appointed Deputy Managing Director of Agro Nat, while Shaheem has taken up the position of General Manager of Facility and Community Empowerment at Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
Two former opposition MDP parliamentarians who joined the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) following last year’s presidential election defeat have been appointed to senior roles in state-owned enterprises.
The two are former Kanditheemu MP Abdulla Shaheem Abdul Hakeem and former Kurendhoo MP Abdul Ghani Abdul Hakeem. Both were elected on MDP tickets in the last parliamentary elections but later switched to the ruling party.
Ghani has been appointed Deputy Managing Director of Agro Nat, while Shaheem has taken up the position of General Manager of Facility and Community Empowerment at Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
Following PNC’s victory in the presidential election, 13 MDP lawmakers elected to the previous parliament crossed over to PNC. Most of them did not seek re-election for the current 20th Parliament.
However, Ghani contested the parliamentary election independently, claiming endorsement from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, but failed to secure a seat.
