The State, on Monday, appealed to the High Court seeking admission for 17-year-old murder victim’s dying declaration.
Two suspects were arrested over Ahsan's murder in March 2011 - Ibrahim Shahum Adam and Hassan Shimaz Mohamed.
Prosecutors are appealing the Criminal Court's verdict, which acquited the two over lack of substantive evidence.
During the hearing, the state highlighted the Supreme Court's previous acceptance of indirect evidence and added that the Criminal Court verdict did not directly reject Ahsan's declaration.
Witnesses testify that 21-year-old Ahsan had accused Shahum of stabbing him.
The state revealed that statements from Ahsan's family were never taken by the lower court and noted the passing of Ahsan's father.
The court ruled to obtain statements from remaining family members and urged the state to disclose information on the family.
Prior to Ahsan's passing, Shahum was arrested August 2010, in connection with the murder of 17-year-old Mohamed Hussain on July 2010. He was released six months later by the then-Criminal Court Chief Judge Abdulla Mohamed, following an inconclusive investigation.
Ahsan's murder took place a month after Shahum's release. He was found guilty of Hussain's murder in 2013 and sentenced to life imprisonment.
Shimaz currently resides in Addu City. He was present at the hearing.
