State Electric Company (STELCO) has denied rumors that the utility provider was attempting to cut power from Hiyaa housing flats in Hulhumalé 2.
The company denied the rumors after several media outlets on Sunday, September 17, reported STELCO was going to cut power from the towers on the same day and the following Monday, September 18.
STELCO in their statement said the rumors were attempts to tarnish the company's reputation amid the ongoing presidential election campaigning.
"We want to assure the public that these reports are unfounded rumors devoid of any truth," STELCO said in a statement.
The utility provider highlighted it was delivering an important public service, and said it would notify the customers beforehand of any possible power cuts or interruptions due to maintenance and upgrade works.
"Such works, their duration, venue or zone of work and other details would be shared by the company on social media platforms to inform the public. We assure that our management had not violated any of these protocols," STELCO added.
Besides denying the rumors, STELCO urged local media to correspond news transparently and responsibly without hurting the sentiments of the public or the company.
