A Pakistani man who was found with over 10 kg of drugs in his luggage claimed in court that he was unaware of the drugs in his suitcase.

Hamza Naeem, 25, was arrested on May 5 for allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs into the Maldives. The Criminal Court has since extended his judicial custody three times. Recently, he was remanded in judicial custody for the third time.

Hamza Naeem was remanded in police custody for an additional 15 days on Thursday.

According to the detention order, the defense told the court that Hamza Naeem claimed he was unaware of the presence of 10.14 kg of drugs in the luggage he brought with him upon arrival. He consistently denied the allegations of drug smuggling during the court proceedings.

During his previous court appearance on June 8, the police told the court that he had booked his arrival to the Maldives under someone else's name. However, specific details regarding this matter have not been disclosed.

However, the court order also states that the submitted documents indicate that the luggage in which the drugs were found belonged to Hamza Naeem.

Apart from Hamza, another Pakistani national, Ahmed Ayaz Raja, 30, has also been arrested in connection with the case.
