An independent party lodged a list of 27 allegations against the Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation Limited, Ahmed Saeed, at the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).

The complaint included accusations of corruption, mainly concerning Fenaka's oil purchases -- a matter that had previously raised a few eyebrows as well.

An official from ACC confirmed on Sunday that the commission is currently evaluating the submission before deciding on launching an investigation into the allegations.

This is the first time that Fenaka, which was described as a "nest of corruption" during former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's tenure, was accused of foul play during the incumbent administration.

According to the corruption watchdog, of the 238 allegations filed to ACC regarding the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption scandal, 52 submissions were against Fenaka.

MD Saeed, who has repeatedly spoken out against corruption since his appointment, has yet to respond to the accusations.

In last December, Saeed had declared that Fenaka saved MVR 23 million by October 2019 by abolishing corruption in the institution.

Referring to statistics, Saeed asserted that the company's efforts to clear its tarnished name had resulted in notable profit.

Prior to that, he had spoken about acts of corruption conducted by certain companies through Fenaka, by selling oil at above-market prices. At the time, Saeed claimed that former parliamentary representatives of Fonadhoo constituency and Vilufushi constituency were shareholders of said companies.
