Jumhooree Party (JP)'s vice president Mohamed Fayaz has stated that the opposition coalition's presidential candidate, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu), will not resign before completing his 5-year presidency term.
Fayaz stated that if elected, Solih and his running mate Faisal Naseem will not resign from presidency and that the coalition pair will fulfill their pledge and complete the presidency term.
Fayaz’s statement came in the wake of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s criticism of the opposition coalition, claiming that the people of Maldives deserve to know the next face of their president after the coalition candidate resigns mid-presidency term.
Main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s manifesto currently declares that, in an administration of the opposition, a coalition government will be established for a period of 18 months. The manifesto also states that the coalition administration will establish independent institutions to achieve the trust of the people of Maldives.
However, MDP and JP are yet to release a coalition manifesto.
