Plan formed for developing 6,000 tourist beds in Addu

Tourism ministry has devised a plan that strategizes the expansion of Addu City's tourism within the next five year. The plan highlights detailed procedures for many developments, among which is establishing 6,000 tourist beds in the city.

Tourism Ministry has introduced a plan to develop the tourism industry within Addu atoll, named “Addu Asseyri Tourism Development Plan”.

The Ministry stated that this plan that is under the 100-day roadmap of this administration was developed with assistance from CDC Consulting. The plan details targets and procedures for developing Addu’s tourism within the next five years.

In addition to tourism, the plan also highlights strategies for expanding the economical activities in the province of Addu.

Accordingly with the pledge made by the government during the presidential elections, 6000 tourist beds will be developed in the city under this plan. Subsequently, 10,000 employment opportunities is also expected to open with the execution of this plan.

Shangri La Vilin’gili resort, a resort in the atoll with halted operations, is also expected to recommence services with this plan.

As devised in the plan, the resort will reopen its services to tourists within this year.

In addition to establishing a cultural village in the city, the plan also describes procedures on identifying marine protected areas and wellness zones as well as for claiming profit through these areas. Furthermore, the establishment of a hospitality school in Addu has also been included within this plan.
