The appointment of Ali Faiz as the Ambassador of Maldives to Sri Lanka has been sent to Parliament for approval.
Faiz was previously the President of the police board set up to reform the police service when he was appointed as ambassador by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. He had left the position being dissatisfied with the progress made by the police board and had met Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla in a parliament committee to discuss the matter as well.
As a member of the ruling coalition party Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) Faiz has held various government positions in the past as well.
Sri Lanka has not had a Maldivian ambassador for nearly a year. The last person to hold the position was Umar Abdul Razzaq. He was appointed ambassador to Belgium and the European Union in May.
