Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced the 222nd COVID-19 fatality in Maldives on Tuesday.
The agency said a 94 year old Maldivian man brought to Gnaviyani Fuvahmulah Atoll Hospital was declared dead this morning.
This is the first COVID fatality of this month.
The highest recorded COVID-19 deaths in Maldives were in May and June of this month, with 88 and 50 deaths respectively. Ten people had passed away from COVID in July.
Spread of COVID in Maldives is now under control after a surge in cases in late April, following the ease of restrictions for the Local Council Election. As per HPA's daily statistics, as of 6 pm on Tuesday, a total of 77,758 COVID cases have been recorded in Maldives. The agency said 125 new cases were recorded within the past 24 hours. Only 16 patients were admitted in hospitals to receive medical care.
