The Supreme Court of Maldives permits online court sessions despite the revocation of the State of Health Emergency.
The Maldives commenced online court hearings for the first time after a State of Health Emergency was declared in 2020 following the Covid-19 global outbreak.
Online court sessions proved to be efficient and less time consuming, while expenses of administration were cut down subsequently as well.
The State of Health Emergency was revoked earlier this week.
In the Practice Directions publicized by the Maldives apex court on Tuesday, 15th March, it had noted that both audio and video conference-based sessions proved efficient.
Furthermore, the court confirmed all court hearings, with the exception of hearings that mandate physical hearing, can proceed via online conferencing means.
