Youth Ministry appoints Bollywood star Sunil Shetty as fitness ambassador

Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment announced on Saturday that Bollywood Superstar and Fitness enthusiast Sunil Shetty has accepted the Ministry's invitation to be appointed as "Ambassador of Wellness" in Maldives.

According to the statement released by the Youth Ministry, under the campaign 'Mission Fit Maldives' to make Maldives one of the World's healthiest nations, Shetty and his team will be working with fitness industry professionals in the country.

Shetty is currently partnered up with Hindustan Times Media Limited to lead one of India's biggest fitness movements, 'Mission Fit India".

Speaking about his partnership with Maldives, Shetty said that he considered it a privilege and an honour to be invited by Maldives on the country' mission towards to more fit nation.

"We have come together for the common intention of busting all myths about fitness and making every household aware and interested in the simplicity of the ways of staying healthy.

I am delighted to be a part of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's vision to make Maldives a fitter nation and I look forward to working with Minister Ahmed Mahloof and his team on this mission."

As per the Youth Ministry, this campaign aims to change the belief that leading a healthy lifestyle is a complex, time consuming an arduous task.

Commenting on this campaign, Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof stated that promoting wellness and healthy lifestyle is one of the most important pledges of this administration.

"The aim of this movement is to simplify fitness for every citizen of this country. We are grateful to Shetty for readily agreeing to support our vision and look forward to welcoming him to Maldives very soon."

He went on to say that "Shetty's participation will be a huge boost to make Mission Fit Maldives a success."

The announcement made on Saturday was met with mixed reactions as some expressed concerns that there are qualified individuals from Maldives who can fill the role of a fitness ambassador.

Minister Mahloof addressed the criticism assuring that the Ambassadorship was an Honorary post and stated that Shetty's experience would help the project.

Furthermore, he also promised to organize the campaign with maximum involvement from locals.
