Judicial Service Commission (JSC), on Wednesday, decided to investigate a case concerning Criminal Court Court Chief Judge Ahmed Hailam.
JSC received a complaint concerning the judge and forwarded it to the disciplinary committee.
The judiciary watchdog has yet to disclose further details concerning the matter under investigation.
Hailam was appointed to the Criminal Court on January 2018 and designated Chief Judge in the middle of the year. He is the presiding judge in the case lodged against Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom by the state.
Furthermore, JSC announced that it had decided to investigate additional complaints made concerning Supreme Court Judge Abdulla Didi. The matter will be handled by the committee previously formed to probe the case against the apex court judge.
The investigative committee had advised JSC to submit a motion to parliament for Judge Didi's dismissal. However, the judicial watchdog provided Judge Didi with a 30-day period to respond to the investigative committee's report before it reaches a decision on the matter.
Mohamed Saleem, a lawyer on Judge Didi's legal team assured that he would reply to the report before the end of the period on August 26.
Judge Didi recently requested the cancellation of his diplomatic passport and attained an ordinary passport from Maldives Customs Service. He is currently abroad.
In addition to Judge Didi and Judge Hailam, JSC has decided to investigate cases concerning Chief Judge of the Haa Dhaal Judicial sector Mohamed Mausoom and Chief Judge Luaiyu Ibrahim of the Dhaahdhoo Court in Ghaaf Dhaalu Atoll.
The judicial watchdog is also probing cases concerning several other Supreme Court Judges and High Court Judges.
