Maldives pres attends Arab Islamic American Summit in Saudi

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom attended the “Arab Islamic American Summit” in Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh on Sunday.

The President’s Office stated that President Yameen was officially invited to attended the summit by the Saudi monarch, King Salman bin Abdulaziz. The President’s Office also claimed earlier that the he would give a speech at the summit, but the event concluded without any word from President Yameen.

In addition to King Salman, other world leaders that gave addresses at the summit include US President Donald Trump who is on his first presidential foreign trip, Jordan’s King Abdulla II, Kuwait’s emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak.

The summit sought to seek an alliance between the Arab Islamic community and the USA to combat terrorism in the world. US President Donald Trump called on the Arab leaders to battle violence stemming from religious extremism and to “drive them out!”
