Dhaalu Atoll Education Centre in Kudahuvadhoo decided to take a unique approach in capturing the sports festival
Taking photos and videos of school events is typically captured by media staff but the Dhaalu Atoll Education Centre in Kudahuvadhoo decided to take a unique approach.
From live streaming the final and closing ceremony of the sports festival for key-stage 3 students, it was the students at the school who recorded the scenes.
Approximately ten students of Grades 9 and 10 participated in the coverage of the futsal and handball tournament held from March 1st to 10th. The media club currently consists of students from grade 6 and above.
According to the school’s Facebook page, the students who participated in the sports festival coverage gained valuable experience. They learned how to operate various camera set-ups to get the shots and how to communicate effectively through the intercom system.
The students were also informed on how to operate the boom microphone, including how to maintain the original audio in a playground. They were also taught how to keep the stage audio microphone working through two different audio mixers.
The school’s aim was to provide students with an opportunity to gain professional, hands-on, multi-camera live production experience. By complying with TV broadcasting standards, the school successfully facilitated the students with experience that will enable them to excel in their future endeavors.
Currently at Dhaalu Atoll Education Centre, the art and media club students are receiving training in video production and audio theory while simultaneously getting necessary workplace training.
