MVR 1.8 million Theft: investigation completed, three charged

Police have sent the names of three individuals to the Prosecutor General’s Office to be pressed charges against in connection with the theft of MVR 1.8 million by compromising a person’s phone.

The case which came to light last February saw the money siphoned off via an individual who knew the password of the individual’s phone and his Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) application.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) investigated the case and arrested a 16-year-old boy, a 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, respectively.

At a press conference, the police stated that the investigation has been completed and charges have been filed against three people, including a minor.

It is known that the minor had familial connections to the victim.

Two days after the case was reported, the police recovered MVR 1.6 million from various premises where the money was used for business and the residence of one of the accused.

According to the police, the money had been used to buy electronics such as phones, watches and also birds.
