SUS academy triumphs third place in LaLiga Youth League

Maldives' Super United Sports has secured third place in the U16 LaLiga Youth Tournament 2024 which took place in Malaysia after defeating Malaysia's Pengiran Football Club.

Maldivian football club, Super United Sports (SUS) academy has secured third place in the LaLiga Youth Tournament 2024 held in Malaysia.

Two Maldivian football academies had taken part in this competition, which features age groups varying from 8 years to 21 years divided into respective categories. Both the Maldivian teams, SUS and Aa Jeelakah had competed in the U16 age group.

SUS had demonstrated excellent tenacity and travelled all the way to the semi-finals in this tournament. The team met a defeat of 2-1 after facing off with the youth team of one of Thailand's strongest football clubs, Chiangmai F.C. SUS scored one goal during the match while Chiangmai shot 2 during the earlier minutes of the match. SUS later recollected themselves during the play and made a comeback, shooting their first goal.

Meanwhile, Aa Jeelakah had advanced to the quarter finals before crashing out after losing to Malaysia's Pengerang Football Club. Pengerang however, had lost to one of the toughest Malaysian teams, Johor Football Club in the semi finals and met SUS later to compete for the bronze spot.

The match, which began after a two hour delay was triumphed by SUS, who had successfully defended their goalpost from all attacks, ending the match 1-0.

Club Johar were hailed champions of the U16 Youth Tournament after clinching victory in the finals, 2-1 against Chiangmai.

Saain Ali, a SUS player had been among one of the top scorers of the tournament after shooting five successful goals.
