Former Auditor General Niyaz Ibrahim has indirectly criticized the opposition, suggesting that it is foolish to expect fairness and impartiality from those who distributed social housing flats from the previous government to close relatives and associates.

Niyaz, who lost his job after exposing the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) fraud during the government of former President Abdulla Yameen, shared on Facebook that "an individual with no official authority in the State was given the opportunity to undermine the entire state system." He further said that the person had influenced the allocation of flats, favoring close associates over individuals in desperate need of housing.

Niyaz said it is foolish to believe that such a person would be fair and just to the people.

While the Facebook status did not mention any names, the then opposition claimed that the current opposition presidential candidate and Housing Minister at that time Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had an additional list of beneficiaries for the flats, and that the wife of former President Abdulla Yameen had influenced the allocation of the flats.

While these allegations were denied, the current government formed a separate committee and revised the beneficiaries list prepared by the previous government and excluded a number of people who were previously on the list of beneficiaries for the Hiyaa flats.

In response to Niyaz's Facebook post, several supporters of the opposition have reacted strongly, including making accusations of corruption against Niyaz and issuing threats to raid his businesses. Niyaz, in turn, has said that such behavior reveals their true character and that he will not be intimidated by these threats.
