Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has announced today that all the forms submitted via online portal to purchase Vinares flats in Hulhumalé Phase 2 have been cancelled.

Vinares flats, construction of which was begun during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen, was completed during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration. At the time, some of the flats were sold, while others were subject to an online application.

The online applications were opened on November 5th last year. However, processing of the forms was stopped due to many issues that arose in the application process. It is reported that the issue came about due to too many users attempting to submit the form at the same time.

At the time, the application process was opened just weeks before the former government was due to hand over the reins to the current administration. However, many did not received the One Time Passcode (OTP) required to access the application portal even up until the deadline of the application process.

However, all the Vinares apartments available to be purchased were booked within just 30 minutes of the applications being opened. According to the portal there were 281 flats available that day, and all 281 apartments were booked within half an hour. The portal also showed that 1,063 applications were in the processing stage.

With all the issues, HDC put a pause on accepting applications until the issues were resolved.

However, HDC announced today in a statement that all the forms submitted previously have now been cancelled considering the technical issues applicants faced during the application process. The corporation also revealed that they received many complaints with regards to the forms.

Many lost out on the opportunity to submit the forms due to all the technical issues, which is why all the forms have been cancelled, HCD said.

The statement also revealed that HDC will no longer be putting the Vinares flats up for purchase, saying that the flats will now be redirected towards parties who have made payments to purchase other flats with in the Hulhumalé area, but have not received their apartments due to the projects being stopped for various reasons.
