Following the fire in the now-destroyed accommodation block in Gulhifalhu used by employees of Afcons, the company has said DNA tests will be carried out to determine whether the charred bones found in the area are those of the missing employee.

In a statement, the company said that while searching for the missing employee, human remains were recovered from the area and the identity can only be confirmed after DNA testing.

Afcons said they were in communication with the missing employee’s family and have offered support and assistance to them.

The company said ensuring the safety and security of its employees is one of its top priorities.

Afcons said there were 457 employees working at the site. All but one of the workers survived the fire, but many had sustained various injuries.

They include:

- 78 people were taken to the hospital

- 35 people were admitted for treatment

- 24 people were treated for minor injuries

- Four people had undergone operations

Afcons assured they would be providing aid to all the people that were affected by the fire. They were providing clothes, mobile phones, and financial aid as well.
