Six eligible political parties that exceed a 10,000 member count have been disbursed payments from the State budget accordingly with the Political Party Act. These six parties are PNC, PPM, MDA, MDP, Jumhooree Party and Adhaalath Party.
Six political parties have been disbursed a total payment of MVR 44 million from the State budget.
The Political Party Act stipulates that each party that exceeds 10,000 members are eligible to receive funds from the State budget, proportionate to the member count. At the moment, six parties that exceed these numbers are active in the country's political industry.
Payments were settled to each of these eligible parties by the end of May, said the Elections Commission (EC), including the ruling party, People's National Congress (PNC), who were dispersed a fund of MVR 8 million.
The largest number of funds were issued to the opposition, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) who had received a payment of MVR 15.1 million.
Meanwhile, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) was conferred a total of MVR 10.4 million while Jumhooree Party received a payment of MVR 5.3 million. Adhaalath Party was disbursed MVR 2.5 million while the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) was issued a payment of MVR 2.4 million.
