Maldives Police have arrested two more individuals for their suspected involvement in the gang assault on Friday evening at Addu Atoll Hithadhoo.
Police said that the arrest of two men, aged 22 and 23, under a court order on Monday, December 4.
Earlier, local authorities arrested four suspects for their alleged involvement in the assault. The Hithadhoo Magistrate Court ordered remand for all of them until their trials concluded.
Police apprehended four local youth from Addu City, aged 18, 19, 20, and 23 years, on Monday.
Reports confirmed that the assault erupted between two gangs in the city, resulting in serious injuries to a 30-year-old man who was attacked with a sharp object. According to the police, the injured man is receiving treatment at Addu Equatorial Hospital, and his condition is reported to be serious.
A second incident occurred on Saturday, believed to be a retaliation for Friday's altercation, involving an assault on a 20-year-old man. The attack took place when assailants broke into a residence and stabbed the individual.
Recently, there have been incidents of violence in Malé City as well. Although no one has been seriously injured in the violence in the capital city, three youths have been arrested in connection with the cases.
The police have initiated a special operation to strenghten security measures in response to increased gang violence in both Malé and Addu cities.
