A joint venture between an Indonesian company, Citramus Heavy Industries, and a Maldivian company, FlexInk Pvt Ltd, has been awarded the contract for constructing the new building of the Atoll Hospital in Shaviyani Funadhoo.
According to the minsitry of health, the project is estimated to cost MVR 136 million.
The contract signing ceremony took place yesterday, and the work is expected to be completed within 1.5 years. The ministry also unveiled the design of the new building, however, details of the project have not been disclosed so far.
The government is actively working on constructing hospitals on various islands across the country. Plans for building a tertiary hospital in Laamu atoll Gan and a hospital in Gaafu Dhaalu atoll Gadhdhoo are set to commence next month, while construction of the hospital in Baa atoll Thulhaadhoo began yesterday.
The Kuwait Fund is contributing to the construction of hospitals on seven islands, including Haa Dhaal atoll Hanimaadhoo, Shaviyani atoll Milandhoo, Noonu atoll Velidhoo, Kaafu atoll Thulusdhoo, Alif Dhaal atoll Maamigili, Vaavu atoll Felidhoo, and Thaa atoll Vilufushi. The projects have been awarded to the contractor as part of the ongoing efforts to improve healthcare facilities across the Maldives.
