A man arrested on robbery charges has said in the Criminal Court that the knife found in his possession was used for the purpose of cutting a cake.
A 31-year-old man from Raa atoll Ungoofaaru was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly trying to rob a foreigner.
When the man was taken to court for his remand hearing, he said he went to the scene "to rescue a girl."
According to his arrest warrant, the knife used during the incident was said to be used to "cut a cake."
The accused described the injury to his body as having been sustained during an attempt to grab the knife when it slipped and fell.
The Criminal Court ordered the man to be remanded in custody for 10 days.
