Police operations to ensure road safety are working well, CP Shujau said.
Police operations initiated to improve the general road and traffic situation and reduce roadside accidents is proving to be fruitful, Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau has said.
Speaking at a press conference held at the President's Office, Shujau said that police are actively patrolling roads across Malé City during peak traffic hours. He also noted that senior officers are stationed outside schools.
He further detailed that many officers, including those from the traffic department as well as other fields, were posted to the roads amidst a recent spike in road accidents in Malé City.
Shujau said the results of this has been very good.
"A lot of accidents that used to happen have been reduced... [we] need to work more on theft and robbery. This cannot be solved by the efforts of Police alone. A total solution can only be received when the entire criminal justice system works together," he said.
He also highlighted that while there are people who steal due to various reasons, it should be solved with appropriate action as per set policies. Shujau said that they have now identified common locations targeted by robbers, and that those areas will have more officers posted from now on.
