Bageecha Hin'gun, the road which envelopes Hulhumalé Central Park will be opened as a one way road, revealed Housing Development Corporation (HDC) yesterday.

The corporation said that it is working to change the traffic flow in some areas of Hulhumalé and that current efforts are focused on drawing lines and installing sign boards to designate Bageecha Hin'gun as a one way street.

This work is scheduled to finish up soon and the road will be opened to the public by Saturday, said HDC.

A total of 11 areas in Hulhumalé are being changed in order to resolve traffic issues and ensure that Hulhumalé roads are less prone to accidents and safer for the public.

With the project in the implementation phase, HDC aims to create roundabouts and install sign board in the rest of the 10 locations under the project within this year.

HDC says that these changes are necessary to reduce traffic jams and dangerous accidents as well as to make roads safer for everyone. The corporation also said that the specific locations were determined based on HDC and Maldives Police Service data to identify the most dangerous and high traffic areas.

Once changes to all 11 locations are completed, traffic flow within Hulhumalé would significantly improve, and congestion on the roads will also be reduced, making the roads safer and secure for both vehicles and pedestrians, said HDC.
