Under Secretary for the President’s Office Mohamed Mabrook Azeez, on Saturday, revealed that four additional resort islands would be allocated for quarantine purposes.
Addressing the press at the daily-held conference for COVID-19 updates, Mabrook said that Malahini Kuda Bandos Resort, Biyaadhoo Island Resort, Nakai Digiri Resort and Holiday Island Resort will be added to the list of existing facilities.
According to him, the new facilities are the outcome of a combined effort of the Tourism Ministry and the tourism industry.
With the addition of new resorts, the number of facilities has increased to nine. Currently. there are 28 people in Vilivaru quarantine facility, 126 people in Hulhule Island Hotel quarantine facility, 16 people in Velidhoo quarantine facility and 59 people in Fun Island Resort quarantine facility.
Mabrook also stated that the additional facilities will be arranged in the coming days.
Furthermore, he noted that the government is not paying any fees for these facilities as the resorts have provided the properties without any charges. The only expenses from the government will be from the National Disaster Management Authority.
Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed revealed that, from the nine facilities, 1158 rooms with a total of 2288 beds have been allocated for those who need to be quarantined. He also shared contacts details for facility focal points from within the ministry.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Saturday, announced that all inbound passengers, with exception to tourists checking into resorts, will be placed under observation at a designated facility. All passengers will undergo a mandatory quarantine period of 14 days.
Maldives currently has 13 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 10 active cases. The country recorded its first two recoveries on Friday, and the third this Saturday. No Maldivians have tested positive for the virus as of yet. So far, only tourists and resort employees have confirmed infections with no local transmissions.
The World Health Organization has classified the spread of COVID-19 as a global pandemic. The novel coronavirus has infected more than 308,400 and claimed over 13,000 lives around the world. Out of those infected, more than 95,800 have recovered.
