Consultation for medical checkups twice a year is unnecessary, according to the Managing Director of Aasandha Company Limited.
While speaking at the SOE Committee, Aasandha Company's Managing Director Aminath Zeeniya said that frequent exposure of patients to X-Ray machines for medical checkups is not ideal for their health.
"Earlier, when plans were made to introduce medical checkup plans, the tests were scheduled either once a year or once every two years, and we shared that information with NSPA as well," Zeeniya said.
Although labeled 'medical checkups,' Zeeniya said that the procedure involves basic screenings, including urine and blood tests, with the requirement for further screening necessary only after analyzing the results of these preliminary tests.
She also said that the discretion of arranging said medical checkups fell on National Social Protection Agency (NSPA).
While Zeeniya has deemed twice-a-year medical checkups unnecessary, last week, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had facilitated medical checkups for patients twice every year.
