The Adhaalath Party decided on Wednesday to form an alliance with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and continue working together in this year's presidential election.

The party, which is already a part of the ruling coalition, made this decision after President Solih extended an invitation to support him during the presidential election scheduled for September 9 this year.

While President Solih had sent invitations to hold discussions to other political parties that are already in the ruling coalition, Adhaalath Party is the first to confirm their support.

Quoting the Adhaalath Party's resolution, which they posted on their Twitter account, President Solih thanked the party for joining the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

According to the Adhaalath Party's resolution to support President Solih, the decision was taken to promote and maintain the true faith of Islam, strengthen the Islamic character of the Maldives, and preserve the religious unity of Maldivians.

The resolution also mentions other things that the party considered before accepting President Solih's invitation to hold discussion. They include safeguarding the Maldives' independence and sovereignty, maintaining harmony, and fostering peace among the people.

One of the reasons the Adhaalath Party decided to support Solih in this year's presidential election was the President's willingness to cooperate in creating a manifesto that will prioritise Islamic values, transparent decentralisation, the well-being of families, and social welfare as well.

Since President Solih won the MDP primary election on January 28, his aim is to win the presidential election in the first round of voting. He has said that he believes this is a possible outcome if the party forms an alliance with other parties like they did in the 2018 election.
