The investigation into the assault on Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem has been completed and forwarded to the Prosecutor General's Office for prosecution.

PG Shameem was attacked in front of his home near Noor Mosque in late January while returning from dropping his child off at school.

Two individuals on a motorcycle, wearing helmets to conceal their identities, are believed to have attempted to strike Shameem on the head with a hammer. However, Shameem was able to defend himself, resulting in injuries to his left forearm instead.

Police said today that the case involving seven individuals arrested in connection with the assault was sent to the Prosecutor General's Office on Sunday following the conclusion of the investigation.

The police had previously released the names of three of the seven suspects; Midhhath Adam, 23, of Riveli, Raa atoll Alifushi; Mohamed Jazlan, 22, of Javaahiru Villa, Thundi, Laamu atoll Gan; and Zayan Naseer, a resident of Alif Dhaalu atoll Maamigili, who is accused of spying on and following the prosecutor general.

All seven suspects are remanded in custody until the end of trial.
