Opposition coalition's presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu) has made several pledges to Maamigili, Alif Dhaal Atoll, including a vow to upgrade the island's health centre to a hospital.
In his campaign stop at the native island of Jumhooree Party's founder Qasim Ibrahim last Thursday night, Ibu stated that adequate healthcare has not been made available for the region which supports a population of around 7,000.
However, he said that people from central Maldives sought treatment from Maamigili and vowed to convert the healthcare centre into a hospital should he win the upcoming presidential election.
Ibu further pledged to introduce banking services in Maamigili, further develop the school as well as develop the island's roads. He also vowed to develop a football pitch in Maamigili.
The opposition candidate was warmly received by the residents of Maamigili upon his arrival. After exchanging greetings with all present, Ibu declared that there was great support for the opposition from both Alif Dhaal and Alif Alif atolls.
