The man who suffered burns in a fire incident at a home in Alifu Alifu atoll Rasdhoo has been flown to India for further treatment.

A family member told Mihaaru News that the man was taken to India yesterday morning for further medical treatment.

The family said that his condition had improved before being flown out, and he was removed from a ventilator.

Despite the improvement, he had been receiving treatment in the ICU prior to his transfer.

The fire occurred on the night of March 26 in a 31-year-old couple's room.

The woman, who sustained severe burns, passed away on Monday night while being treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). The man also suffered burns to most of his body.

Dr Shailesh Ranade, a Burns, Plastic, and Aesthetic Surgeon from Bhatia Hospital in Mumbai, had visited Maldives late last month to provide advice on the treatment.

Despite the severity of the burns, the fire caused minimal damage to the room, with only a burnt window curtain as the most significant damage.
