State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has donated MVR 500,000 (USD 32,470.62) to the telethon "Palestine aa eku Dhivehin," which translates to "Maldivians in Support of Palestine," organized by state media, Public Service Media (PSM).
STELCO said that the donations were made on behalf of the employees of the company. The telethon, which commenced at 08:00 hrs, will continue until midnight.
STELCO's senior management and staff had set up a donation box in front of the company's main building for the Palestine telethon.
The telethon had raised over MVR 1.8 million (USD 116,894.21) within six hours.
The PSM Palestine telethon was launched by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu this morning. He emphasized the need to intensify efforts to support the people of Palestine.
A total of 13 donation boxes have been set up in the Male' region to collect funds for Palestine. These boxes are located in the Hiyaa Tower area of Hulhumale' Phase 2, Hulhumale' Hospital, Velana building area, State Trading Organization (STO) building area, Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), ferry terminals, and STO supermarket area. A donation box has also been placed inside the Television Maldives (TVM) premises.
