Yoosuf Ibrahim, also known as Yoosube, went missing during a solo fishing trip last Saturday. His disappearance has launched a comprehensive search operation conducted by the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF).
The MNDF's Malé Area Command and Coast Guard Second Squadron are still actively searching for Yoosube, who disappeared while fishing in a small engine boat.
The search operations for Yoosuf have involved a combination of diving, aerial search, and surface searches, conducted by both MNDF's Malé Area Command and Coast Guard Second Squadron along with and local divers in Dhangethi.
According to MNDF;
- A total of 78,850 square meters have been search through diving.
- Aerial search efforts in the MNDF Dornier aircraft have covered 156.87 square nautical miles.
- The MNDF Coast Guard's fast interceptor craft 'Hakura' has searched an area of 4.11 square nautical miles by sea.
Yoosuf, aged 68, set off for a solo fishing expedition early on Saturday and was reported missing later that morning. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a red t-shirt.
Yoosuf embarked on his fishing trip in a small boat to the east of Alif Dhaalu Orimas Falhu, passing through the north sea of Ranveli.
Dhangethi Island Council President Muaviyath Rasheed said that the search for Yoosuf involves 10 MNDF divers and 12 local divers.
Dhangethi is home to one of the largest communities of divers in the Maldives.
