Parliament has granted approval for Attorney General Ahmed Usham, Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed, and Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.
The parliament, which has a ruling People's National Congress (PNC) supermajority, approved three ministers in President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's cabinet who were previously denied approval by the 19th Parliament, which had an opposition majority.
At the time, the opposition, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) had issued a whip to disapprove four of the 22 nominees proposed for President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's first Cabinet. The parliament had then voted to reject three Ministers on January 29.
The three Ministers who were denied approval were Attorney General Ahmed Usham, Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed, and Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.
During today's voting session, Dr Shaheem and Usham received unanimous approval from all participating members. No members voted against granting their approval.
However, three MDP members voted against granting approval for Dr Haider.
Although the 19th parliament had not granted approval for the three ministers, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had reappointed them to their ministerial posts.
