The Addu Feydhoo Magistrate Court has recently issued a substantial 30-year sentence for two drug-related cases. Ahmed Varudhee was found guilty of trafficking diamorphine and peddling cannabis, resulting in the lengthy sentence.
Varudhee has been sentenced to 25 years in prison and fined MVR 100,000 for the offense of diamorphine trafficking. In addition, he has been sentenced to 5 years in prison and fined MVR 15,000 for cannabis pedaling.
This case is the first drug-related investigation conducted by the South Drug Enforcement team.
During the search of Varudhee's room, authorities discovered drugs as well as materials typically used for drug packaging. In addition, a sum of MVR 29,000 was found, although the money, suspected to belong to Varudhee's mother did not warrant a court order.
