Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, on Sunday, launched an investigation into the dismissal of students from the Asian Academy of Aeronautics (AAA), the flight school based on Addu Atoll's Gan International Airport.

According to a tweet by the Civil Aviation Minister Aishath Nahula, the ministry issued a warning to the academy and condemned the "unjust" action taken against the students.

It was further revealed that, following the concerns, the ministry moved to formally conduct an audit over AAA's operations.

The issue was initially raised over AAA's decision to expel 15 students, including those that are at the final stages of course.

As reported by local media Mihaaru, an individual revealed that a majority of the terminations were announced prior to any previous warnings. The reasons offered for the dismissals include late fees and failure to complete the course during the allocated timeframe. However, it was alleged that the demands were unrealistic.

"None of the students were able to complete their course during the allotted timeline. It is because of the increased number of students and the lack of aircraft and instructors. When we joined the course, these issues were never mentioned".

While students must pay USD 45,000 Addu International Airport Company (AIA)'s Director Ibrahim Noordeen noted that 80 percent of the school's operations were conducted without charging a fee, nor was the flying school charged fees for aviation or night-flying.
