Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) this week confirmed that the child who tested positive for measles had completed the measles vaccinations.
The CEO of AEH, Dr. Mohamed Solih, told Mihaaru news that even though a child had tested positive for measles, all the required vaccine doses were administered to him.
Even with full vaccinations, there is a low chance of contracting the disease.
Since a child tested positive for measles on Tuesday, a disease that had been eradicated from the Maldives, another child with similar symptoms is being tested for measles as well.
Dr. Solih said both children are doing well.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) said both cases have passed the infectious period, so there is a very low chance of the children passing measles on to other people. However, since the disease has been eradicated from the Maldives, even a single case will be considered an outbreak.
- Fever
- Small rashes on the skin
- Coughing
- Runny nose
- Red eyes
Measles was eradicated from the Maldives in 2018; however, there were a few reported cases in early 2020.
