Addu City Council has opened bidding for investors to develop tourism facilities in the Addu atoll Hithadhoo’s Eedhigali tourism zone.

The announcement by the council stated a land plot of 21,000 square meters has been established for the Eedhigali tourism zone and that bidding has been opened for both national and international investors to develop this determined area.

Further disclosing a fifty-year duration for the zone lease, the announcement highlighted that tourism facilities linked to the City Hotel can be included amongst these investments.

Bid purchase for parties interested in this developmental project begins today and ends on 12:30 hrs of the 21st of March.

Subsequently, these bids will be accepted by the Administration of Addu City Council at 10:00 hrs on the 15th of April.

Tourism Ministry had introduced a special plan to develop the city's local tourism, “Addu Asseyri Tourism Development Plan” recently.

In conformity of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to the city amid the presidential elections, 6,000 tourist beds are to be established under this plan and further estimates the provision of 10,000 employment opportunities with this development.

Additionally, the resort that was formerly operated in the city but is presently shut down, Shangri-La's Villingili Resort & Spa, has also decided to reopen their doors to tourists soon.

This Tourism Development Plan further underlines the establishment of a cultural village alongside identification of wellness zones and marine protected areas in the city while also explaining procedures to ensure profits from these regions. This plan carries on to further determine the construction of a school and a hospital in Addu City as well.
