The torrential rain due to the onset of the Southwestern Monsoon has caused floods in parts of Addu City. According to the Disaster Management Center, heavy rainfall associated with Southwestern Monsoon has resulted in flooding in several parts of Addu City. As a result, many houses in Hithadhoo and Feydhoo have been damaged. In Hithadhoo, 16 houses have been flooded and seven houses have been damaged, while in Feydhoo, eight houses have been damaged.
"The situation does not require humanitarian assistance," Disaster Management Center said.
Addu City Council Member Ibrahim Shinaz said that the Southern Command of the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) and the City Council have begun to provide assistance to the flooded areas.
"MNDF is setting up pumps to drain the flooded areas, and we are also using sandbags to prevent water from entering the houses," he said.
