The Health Protection Agency on Sunday, revoked Addu City Council's decision to impose a 14-day lockdown on the southernmost atoll.
The restrictive measures were lifted after authorities initially recorded a false positive from the city. The individual was later confirmed negative after a second test.
HPA confirmed that an individual transferred from Addu Equatorial Hospital to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) had tested negative for the virus. The authorities initially reported the false positive earlier on Saturday.
Presently Maldives records 790 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 758 active cases and 3 deaths.
Maldives’ capital Malé, one of the most densely populated cities in the world, has recorded a significant increase in COVID-19 since it recorded its first local transmission of the virus on April 15, involving a Maldivian woman that sought assistance from a flu clinic in Malé after developing symptoms for the virus.
The country recorded its first COVID-19 related death, of an 83-year-old local female, on April 29. Since, two more individuals, a 33-year-old Bangladeshi man and a local 80-year-old man have succumbed to COVID-19.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified the spread of COVID-19 as a global pandemic. The new strain of novel coronavirus has infected over 4.1 million people and claimed over 280,724 lives around the world. However, out of those infected, 1.44 million people have recovered.
