President Dr Mohamed Muizzu assured the people of Addu that his administration will bring the anticipated development to the atoll through the projects they have planned, and appealed to them to elect government aligned candidates in the upcoming parliamentary elections to facilitate the implementation of said projects.
Speaking last night at a campaign rally of Mohamed Ameeth, People's National Congress (PNC) candidate for Addu Maradhoo constituency, the President stated that Addu has some of the most key projects dedicated for them under the current government's development plans.
The President affirmed that Addu is the center of the Integrated Development Zone the government plans to establish covering the four southernmost atolls of the country.
President Dr Muizzu asked for people's trust in the administration's efforts to bring development to the Maldives, and reiterated that this can be brought about through a lot of work within parliament as well.
He stated that the law governing the 20 year master plan can also be approved only with parliamentary approval. The plan, he said, will be protected by a law.
Stating that the masterplan includes development plans for Addu as well, the President opined that Addu had so far failed to see sustainable development due to always having always been represented by the 'same people' in parliament. While the President has implied this, all seats of Addu were won by now opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in the last parliamentary election.
The President appealed to the people of Addu to voted for PNC candidates this time, to offer cooperation to the government's plans to bring widespread development to the region.
He listed housing, youth employment, expansion of airports and tourism among the list of areas projects are planned in.
