Addu Emergency Operation Centre (AEOC), on Tuesday night, stated that it is unlikely that there is a community spread in Addu, since no individuals have contracted the virus outside of the already identified clusters.

Speaking at a press conference held by AEOC, Dr Abdulla Munshid from Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH), asserted that COVID-19 has been largely controlled in Addu City due to the notable compliance levels shown by the public.

According to Dr Munshid, the presence of a community spread will be completely ruled out after all the random samples collected across the atoll test negative.

The doctor further urged everyone to continue adhering to the safety precautions although a community spread has not been confirmed in the atoll.

Addu City records two COVID-19 clusters including a local cluster that stemmed from aviation security officers and spread across the joined islands in Addu, and a second cluster of expatriate workers that tested positive in Hulhumeedhoo.

Including the 37 cases from the first cluster and the 25 cases from the second cluster, the total number of positives in Addu City currently totals up to 62.

Currently, three virus patients are admitted in Addu, while three more under observation.

Initially placed under one week of monitoring on February 9, 2021, authorities further extended this period for seven more days, taking the atoll’s current situation into consideration.

Under the COVID-19 immunization program kicked off by the state on February 1, 2,340 people have been vaccinated in Addu City till date.
