Six arrests made in relation to Addu stabbing

Six arrests have been made in relation to the stabbing of 22-year-old Mohamed Evan which occurred on the night of October 6, in Maradhoo of Addu Atoll.

The first arrest was that of a 17-year-old who fled to Hulhumeedhoo following the altercation between two gangs which resulted in the stabbing. A police spokesperson has stated that five further arrests were made under a court order the same day.

The men in question, aged between 17 and 22, were hiding out in a house located in Feydhoo at the time of their arrest.

Evan sustained serious injuries on the back, neck and head during the assault which resulted in serious lung damage.

He was initially treated at Hithadhoo Regional Hospital before he was transferred to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in capital Male' on October 7. Evan is currently on life support and remains in critical condition.

Although another person was injured in the same gang fight, the wounds he sustained were not serious.
